Week 1 AI – Girls

American Idol – Girls. Yay.
Well. Here we go. I promised to be better about it. And Daniel’s post has inspired me. I hope it doesn’t seem copied. XD Ah well. Let’s see. What’s going on….

“Bring it.” Thanks for that, Paula. Very inspiring. (;

Okay. Here we go. Who’s on first… (what’s on second…)

Kristy Lee Cook – Rescue Me
(Okay, is it a rule that those people in the front by the stage have to stand up and just – do something to go with the song? I mean, they can’t possibly think all the songs are worth standing up…)
S’not bad. Eh. Not exciting either. I feel a bit like I’m at a high school talent show. A bit boring, actually. *yawn* Judges?
Randy: Pitchy.
Paula: It’s okay to be pitchy since you are sick. (riiight….)
Simon: Song doesn’t suit and performance was robotic. (How I adore Simon. (; )

Joanne Borgella – I Say A Little Prayer For You
Um. This is Aretha Franklin. Why are you pussyfooting around this? Why is the chorus so – bland? Ugh. I’m not happy with this. It sounds – wrong. :/ Oh. Sure. Belt the damn end of it.
Judges?
Randy: Weird, but okay at the end.
Paula: Nervewracking situation, but pull it together
Simon: I didn’t like it at all. Average and caberet.

Alaina Whitaker – More Today Than Yesterday
Best one so far. I actually like this one. There’s energy to it and I could actually see myself getting into the song. Yay. Things are looking better.
Judges?
Randy: Year of the young ones. It was like going on!
Paula: You nailed it. Best ending.
Simon: I think you are very good.

Amanda Overmyer – Baby Please Don’t Go
I’d like to understand you. Is the song supposed to sound like that? I’m commpletely distracted by trying to understand what the hell she is saying. I mean, uh. I don’t know what to say. I couldn’t understand a word. Was it good? I don’t know. I couldn’t tell!
Judges?
Randy: I liked it. Trousers are kinda fly.
Paula: I love everything you do. (Thanks, Paula. Nice critique)
Simon: I like you. I think you are authentic. A little all over the place.

Amy Davis – Where The Boys Are
Hrmm. Did she come from the 50’s and 60’s? Sounds about right for a white girl from the era, right? Fits right in with the songs from Grease. (Anyone remember those?! XD ) The girly songs. It just strikes me as a bit old-fashioned. Meh. Watch all the judges disagree with me. (Upon the ‘revisit’ I really hate this. Ugh. UGH.)
Judges?
Randy: Not great – pitchy.
Paula: Camera loves you. (That’s all you got?!) Not the best song for you.
Simon: It was what it was. Boring song. Caberet. Dull. Not you.

Brooke White – Happy Together
Pitchy. It’s bad when *I* hear it. Srsly. It’s getting better. But the beginning was awful. Oy vey. Where’s the joy? Hello? Energy? Anyone? >__<
Judges?
Randy: Rough start, back part was ‘slaying’.
Paula: Competition is about originality. Picked the right song.
Simon: Chose the right song. In a commercial. Struggling with relevance. Sang it well.

Alexandrea Lushington – Spinning Wheel
Hrmm. I like this one. She looks like she’s actually having fun, too. Yeah. I like it. Nice sneaks, chica.
Judges?
Randy: About being young – blew the doors off that. Hot song. Hot.
Paula: Took control of your entrance. Dope outfit. (Paula? What?! O_o ) More confidence than others. (True)
Simon: I didn’t get it. Vocals were horrible. Terrible 60’s musical. I like the attitude! (In reference to her response to Ryan about her name.)

Kady Malloy – Groovy Kind of Love
Hrmm. Unless Phil Collins covered this (which is possible) this seems out of time period. Eh. S’okay. S’all I got.
(Wikipedia ftw. Originally released in 1965 by the Mindbenders)
Judges?
Randy: It was okay. Restrained. Concentration a little gone.
Paula: See the fun of you more.
Simon: Night of the living dead. When you do you, the lights go off.

Asia’h Epperson – Piece of My Heart
Hrmm. I did not recognize this song at all. At all. Hrmm. Now I do. Hrmm. Interesting. I like her. Sounds like she’s having fun. The vocals sound good. To me, anyway.
Judges?
Randy: I love that, yo. You did your thing with that.
Paula: You had fun. Good moments.
Simon: Favorite of the night. Fun, likable, good voice. What it’s all about.

Ramiele Malubay – You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me
I like it. (Can you tell I’m getting tired? All of my comments are getting – smaller.) She’s doing well. I think she could belt parts of this a bit more. Seems like she should.
Judges?
Randy: Stuck to the melody but made it your own. Hot.
Paula: Force to be reckoned with. (Really? Eh. Maybe.) Great performance.
Simon: Outsung every single person.

Syesha Mercado – Tobacco Road
I’m not sure if I like it or not. I thought I did, but it’s – maybe it’s the song. Part of it seemed out of place with the rest. (Well, just one set of notes.) It just seemed – wrong – with the rest of the ‘belty’ parts.
Randy: Couple pitchy things, I liked it.
Paula: Consistent. Joyful. Fun. Big.
Simon: Wasn’t your best performance. One of the most talented girls in this competition.

Carly Smithson – Shadow of Your Smile
She doesn’t seem sure of herself. Especially on some of the higher notes. (Did you see that mic swing away from her face so you wouldn’t be able to tell if she didn’t hit the note? (; ) I totally caught that. (Randy, at least once it wasn’t to keep from screaming into the mic. That one note would have been god awful.)
Judges?
Randy: Best vocal of the top 24. Hot.
Paula: Lucky coin in the pocket. Reliable. Beautiful inflections.
Simon: I didn’t get it. Song too old-fashioned, mic techniques caberet. I expected fantastic and didn’t hear fantastic.

Poe’s Tally Vs. Simon’s Match-Tally: 9/12
Disagree
Amanda: He liked it, I didn’t.
Brooke: He said it was good. I hated it.
Alexandrea: He didn’t like it, I did.

Eh. Not a bad tally. Why Simon? Because he tends to be spot on a lot more than Randy and Paula. Dear god. Tonight, they loved EVERYONE. Christ. What is wrong them today? Eeesh.

Am I going to vote? Nope. Tomorrow? Results. Two boys get cut and two girls get cut. Horray. And now – bed.

Good night, internets.

    @gina – I don’t know. I think I liked the boys more. We’ll see. (;

    @Daniel – I <3 you, you know that? You totally made my morning with that. (;

@Alicia – I’m not sure why I like the boys better. I just – did. I hope next week is a better theme. All those slow songs were killing me.
