Yesterday was the 4th of July. Now, every country has one, aye. But, here in the good old US of A, the 4th of July is Independence Day. We celebrate the day our forefathers declared there would be no taxation without representation, amongst other things, by grilling meat and drinking beer. Oh, and with fireworks. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the hamburgers and the fireworks, but someone clear this up for me.
What does that have to do with the original meaning?
I mean, sure, how else do you celebrate, but shouldn’t we at least have some TV shows about why the 4th is important? Shouldn’t we have storytime about what Independence Day means? No, ID4 doesn’t really count. ::snickers::
Honestly, I think there should be – something. Just so the whole point doesn’t get lost.
Does that make any sense?
Or are my two cents just – out to lunch?
I think you’re right about needing something to remind us what Independence Day is all about… and first on the list of things to change is calling it “The Fourth of July”… I think that aids the forgetfullness. I don’t know about TV shows or movies but it would be neat if there was a public movement to urge people to visit museums and national monuments before they chow on burgers and shoot off fireworks… cuz you really can’t get rid of that…. it’s a birthday, afterall.
See, that’s totally the way I see it.
EVERY country has a 4th of July. No big whoop there. If you refer to it as Independence Day, everyone gets why you are having a party. (=
And you are right. Let’s go to a museum and then chow down! ::giggles:: (=
Awww…what do you mean???
Independance day is to celebrate fireworks
Christmas is to celebrate getting stuff
Easter is to celebrate hidden eggs
