happy happy birthday!

happy birthday pandora! Here’s a Birthday Song for you! smile

I am all about the birthdays. I have been since as far back as I can remember.  I love to throw big birthday parties where I have lots of yummy food and the place is filled with my family and friends.  I haven’t really had a birthday party here in Tampa, it just doesn’t seem like a real birthday party without my family there. I don’t usually start the birthday count down until after St Patty’s Day – which, coincidentally, is exactly 2 months before my birthday.  I will be 28 on this next birthday. Wow. Does it feel weird to type that out. Not bad weird, just weird.  Last year I didn’t plan a party, but was sort of hoping that my husband would plan me a surprise party.  (A couple of our friends had recently done that for their ladies, and I hoped he’d follow their lead.)  I don’t know that I will plan anything this year either.  I love my birthday; and having one is super! And will always be; no matter the age.

Poe, I hope you Birthday is a happy joyous day, filled with lots of love and presents! smile

Birthdays Galore!

1. What is your favorite birthday memory? Even better, are there horror stories?
My parents had big family birthday parties for us every year. We’d have all the relatives over for cake, ice cream and presents, of course. I can’t think of one in particular that was better than another though.

2. What was your favorite birthday gift?
“Growing Up Skipper” I loved my Skipper doll. I could relate to her much better than I could to Barbie (the slut!) Growing Up Skipper was special because when you turned the left arm she grew a modest bust line, slimmer waist and became 3/4″ taller. (turning the arm back again reverts to the previous shape doll). I was mesmerized! I had my Barbies make-out with each other, f**k Ken! My sister chewed off his plastic nose anyhow, so who wanted to date him?!

3. What do you love doing for your birthday?
Drinking, eating food I wouldn’t normally eat and getting presents!

4. Writer’s Choice!
It’s my birthday on the 26th. I’ll be honest, I’m going to be 36. Me, 36! When did I get to be this age? It’s not old, not by far- but it isn’t an age that I think of myself as. It’s sort of a surprise to me when I say it.

People like you and I, though mortal of course like everyone else, do not
grow old no matter how long we live…[We] never cease to stand like curious
children before the great mystery into which we were born.” -Albert
Einstein

“Thirty-five is a very attractive age. London society is full of women of
the very highest birth who have, of their own free choice, remained thirty-five
for years.” – Oscar Wilde

“In the second half of life the necessity is imposed of recognizing no
longer the validity of our former ideals but of their contraries. Of perceiving
the error in what was previously our conviction, of sensing the untruth in what
was our truth, and of weighing the degree of opposition, and even of hostility,
in what we took to be love. “- Carl Jung

I exploded a what?!

Let’s cycle ourselves back a week. The 15th of February. Last Wednesday. The day was actually pretty good, overall. Very nice contrast to Tuesday. I leave work at around 3:45 pm, nothing unusual. As I start driving home, I start to get some serious pains in my lower side/belly. Now, let’s make the following note. I live about 12 miles from my job. And it’s – rush hour. Those were the longest 12 miles of my life. >___< I was wondering if I was going to crash because it hurt so very badly. Fortunately, I made it home. And then had to sit in my car for about five minutes, hoping I wouldn’t die. I also thought about just driving myself to my HMO place. But, no. I dragged myself upstairs and threw myself onto my couch and just laid there, in dire pain and unhappiness. It was quite the afternoon. I laid there for about an hour before it finally subsided. Now, you might ask – what the hell was I thinking?! Not going to the ER? Not going to the doctor? Am I stupid? Not exactly. It was more that I had had an episode like this four years ago. I went to the after hours care place of my HMO. I was poked, prodded, scanned there. And then they told me I needed to go and be admitted to the hospital so I could have a contrast scan. I go to the hospital. (My poor Roomie. She was so sweet. Driving me all over creation.) They do the scan. Drinking metal is *not* fun. >____< And I wait. And wait. And wait. Only to be told my test was inconclusive. But they were "95% sure" they knew what had happened. I had ruptured an ovum. No, not an ovary, an ovum. That’s one egg, boys. Just one egg. And they figured it had exploded itself in the Fallopian tube, so that was why it was so painful. Well. How enlightening. I spend an entire evening in pain and in the hospital to hear, “We aren’t UTTERLY sure, but we’re PRETTY sure.”

So – given the similarity of symptoms, I knew they would be able to do nothing for me. Now, I’m not completely stupid. If the pain had not subsided in a timely manner, I would have called someone and gone to the ER. In the last round, by the time I actually got to have my insides scanned – the pain was gone. So – I was working off of previous experience in not going to the ER.

But it made for an interesting day. And story. How many people can answer the question “So, how was your day?” with:

“I exploded an ovum.”
