In Kerr park, about 3 miles from here, there are hundreds of trees. I suppuse that most of them are Maple, as we get a lot of those growing naturally around this area.
In a particular grove fairly distant from the picnic pavilions, back toward the river but before the highway gets too close, there is a tree. I would be that tree.
This tree grows, as most do, from the ground. But instead of a single trunk, this tree has grown four separate tunks from the same root. The split happens about a foot from the ground, and a between the trunks gives just enough room to squeeze into the space inside.
The “inside” of this tree has seen quite a few secluded romantic moments, if personal experience is representative of a larger pattern.
Yes, that’s the tree I would be. I think it leads a more interesting life than most trees, sitting in solitude, overhearing distant animal calls or the occasional rumbling of thunder amidst the seasonal wind, rain, and snow.
