Okay, daniel was posting about a new TV show he adores. And that reminded me of the one I watched last week which has become a MUST on my Mondays. (;
What is it?
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford. And it’s about a comedy sketch show. And it’s shown on NBC. If you haven’t seen it yet, find the first episode on you tube or – somewhere. The first ten minutes are so worth it, it’s unbelievable.
I’ll put the spoilers after the bump…
The show opened as the comedy sketch show was about to start. They pulled a segment because the guy in charge of relations thought it was too risque – or something. I forget. Now, the guy in charge of the show was pissed off, but said fine. And so, the show began. (Yes, very much like MadTV or SNL. Opening sketch, etc.)
And then, the guy in charge walks out, in the middle of a LIVE broadcast, and stops the current sketch. And then proceeds to go off on a rant about how far the show has plummetted. He talks about how the show used to be cutting edge, pushing the boundaries, funny as hell, and must see TV. Then he rants that the show was now only about amusing idiot teenage boys with fart jokes and the like.
I’m on the floor, dying of laughter. Why?
Same rant I’ve heard from people I know about SNL. Holy crap. XD I nearly cried, I was so amused. A show on NBC, ripping on the sketch comedy show which has been on NBC for longer than I’ve been alive. (And has had some of the funniest people alive as cast members.)
It was utterly priceless and I *WANT* those first ten minutes on my computer. My god, it was PERFECT. I commend NBC for picking up the show and just – wow.
Of course, Matthew Perry’s character on pain killers because of back surgery and Bradley Whitford as his partner who’s fallen off the wagon (for cocaine) – and they get to take over the show.
Tune in, people.
TUNE IN!
and i still haven’t decided if i am taking on any new programs!
It’s tough, isn’t? Fabulous new shows, but you don’t want to spend your life watching TV…
Oh noes! What will we do?
