So – I finally decided. On my charity for the Blogathon. (=
I was surfing for – something – and came across one called Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. Now, some of you know that someone very near and dear to my heart is in the military. She is a military doctor. And – she’s stationed in Germany. She sees all of the wounded as they come back from the war. She’s passed along some of the stories to me. All I can say is – wow. So much is needed for these guys. So – once again! Here I am. (;
Here’s their mission statement:
The mission of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is to ensure the enactment of policies that properly provide for our Troops & Veterans, keep our military strong, and guarantee our national security for the purpose of a stronger America. We uniquely empower Iraq & Afghanistan combat veterans to use their credibility and experiences to speak truth to power, shape public opinion, and place a priority on these issues.
If you visit their site, you can see all the things they’ve done so far, including working to get funding to help returning military personnel get through college and working on helping the mental health of those returning from overseas. You can get all the details of what they do here. That last part is really important, I think. Think about the films, the episodes of TV series, books – all of that which chronicled how the Vietnam veterans coped with returning home. Truly, I cannot even attempt to imagine how difficult it must be. So – yay! (=
I’m really excited about this. Can you tell? (=
Now, the only thought is – new layout to go with the schtick – or go with the layout from last year? Gimmie your thoughts on that one. (;
Luka and Yoshi – Since you sponsored me when I was set up for Amnesty International, if you’d like to change or withdraw your sponsorship of me, it’s cool. I’m going to try to email you guys about it, too. Just wanted you to have the choice, yanno? (=
This is a good charity. I’m pretty partial to the military myself, since I’m a veteran. Though I’ve never served in an active war, I’ve heard enough stories and met the folks who have.
Pretty good cause I think to go for.
no withdrawals. seriously. good charity change
Thanks guys. You are the bestest. (=
