Hey everyone! This is Colin from good ol’ therapy in the making! And as you can imagine I’m here for Free For All Friday. Who doesn’t love a free for all? Any kind of free for all. No wait, that came out dirtier than what it sounded like in my head.
So, as some of you may know, this is the first time I’m taking part in FFAF. In fact it is the first time I’m opening my own blog for FFAF. So once you’re done reading and commenting here, why don’t you come over my blog and show me and my guest bloggers some comment love? You can even guest blog yourself if you want!
Right, back to what I wanted to write about. This being my first experience of FFAF (yeah I jumped on the bandwagon a little later than most) I have to admit it’s a little surreal. I’m just sitting here, munching away some great Galaxy Dark chocolate and my RSS reader shows that someone has updated their site and when I check it’s my own site that has been updated. I’ve never seen this happen from this perspective. It’s like I’m no longer Colin Brooks, I’m one of you, just another visitor. It is an interesting perspective to say the least. I am enjoying it thoroughly and by putting myself in the visitor position I can see why I started this whole blogging shindig. I love it! I love to be creative and to express myself through writing. The problem is that now I see, I’ve been doing it wrong for almost a year now. By wrong I mean this is not what I had in mind when I first started blogging. My writing style has been deteriorating for a while now and I feel I am no longer being creative. I am still writing about things I wanted to write about but I don’t have the edge I used to have with my first posts (first 2 years or so). It hit me when I accidentally clicked on the Favourite Posts page. All the posts there are more than a year old!
I think I know what I have to do now but my question is, have you found yourself in a similar position ever? Are your posts what you had imagined when you started blogging? Is it just me? Am I just being paranoid and overthinking it? Should I chill and drink less coffee when I start to think about these things? (For those of you you sometimes read my blog) Am I completely wrong about this and my posts are actually fine? Or should I just update that Favourite Posts page and include newer ones after going through the archives?
My posts are definitely different than when I first started blogging. first of all, i’m a happier person now than before. My original first posts when i started (around 2000-2001) were very dark. But that’s who I was then.
I like to think that as I grow, my posts grow too. I like to think I’d gotten better at engrish. 😀
but nowadays, my posts aren’t quite as creative as they used to be. sometimes dark is good. my posts now are pretty much the rantings and ravings of an old man. LOL
Your “engrish” is perfect mr! And you’re not an old man, neither do your posts make you sound like one.
I have been writing blog entries lately just so i could say that I do still write. Sometimes they arent up to par to my entries before. Which is quite sad. I think Ive lost the true essence of blogging.
Don’t beat yourself up Lester. I’m sure we’ll find our old selves. I found that reading older posts and getting into that mind-set helps write in the style I like and am good at.
I did it earlier today. You should try it!
