I think I have to move to a different hosting company again… The one I’m with now (I only moved back there a few weeks ago) has been very good until now but since last night my SQL database (where every post and comment from my blog are held) has been “unreachable”. In other words the SQL server has been down for 24 hours!
This. Sucks. Balls. (I have removed a lot of swear words from this part of the post because I didn’t want to shock you too much)
Thank goat I can post here and vent. But I miss my therapeutic blog! ๐
What are your favourite hosting companies? Which one would you recommend?
Colin
Bonus swear word: Penis.
Allow me to explain how little help I am going to be in this discussion. I have heard the term MySQL. And that’s it.
I hope you find a reliable Hosting service but I won’t muddy the waters any further for you by splashing about in a pool i’ve no business being in.
Okay, penis is so not a swear word. Penis. I’ll say it again… Penis. Penis. Penis. Penis. Penis. Penis. Penis. Penis. Penis.
See? Not swearing.
More like scientific. Besides, our Pandora HAS dropped the f-bomb more than once…
Hmm. Hosting providers to recommend? Hostgator is pretty decent. So is EllisLab hosting but you don’t have EE, so there’s no real advantage for you, although how ironic would it be to run a wordpress blog on ellislab hosting.
Other than that, I have no other recommendations.
Daniel: That’s what I keep telling him. He needs to start using *real* swear words! lol
As for hosting, I don’t have any recommendations. I, myself, have mixed reviews about hostgator…I also have a love/hate relationship with surpasshosting…STAY AWAY FROM GODADDY HOSTING!
Abraxus :: Sometimes I just want to switch to a wordpress.com account and get it over with but I like being in charge of my hosting and generally complicating things for myself. You’re lucky you don’t have things lke that to worry about.
Daniel :: Okay… Bollocks! How’s this for a swear word? I don’t use normal swear words. Even when I swear I like to be original or whatever…
Yoshi :: I’ll look into it. I might check out which hosting companies WordPress recommends too. Any opinion on bluehost or dreamhost? I’m leaning towards dreamhost.
Danalyn :: I am definitely staying away from GoDaddy. And here’s a another swear word for your amusement “they’re all bloody twats”!
I’ve never heard anything good from dreamhost, but that was a while ago. dana would know more i’m sure. ๐
@yoshi remember my dreamhost nightmare??
@daniel omg i didn’t until now! *screams!*
Oh dear… There was a nightmare? A nightmare that makes Yoshi scream?! *crosses dreamhost off the list*
@colin… wise. they suck… srsly. you get what you pay for, and hosting is no different. look for mid-grade pricing at the minimum. dreamhost was awful!
daniel :: Before I moved to the server I’m at now I was with hostmysite which was good and had no outages but they have some weird caching on their servers which caused my blog to not update as soon as I made changes to it. It would take too long for posts and comments to appear on the site even though they were on there and I would receive notifications about them . Also any changes I made to the template would require me to reset the template for them to show. Oh yes, this comment is regarding the whole mid-grade pricing, hostmysite was a lot more expensive than the host I’m with now. I’ll keep looking…
